For those of you new to speedway here is an explanation.

In the UK there are 3 different leagues the Elite League, Premier League and National League.

A meeting consists of 2 teams which each have 7 riders. There are 15 heats within each meeting with each rider programmed to ride in 5 heats. Each race (heat) consists of 4 riders, two from each team, racing over 4 laps. The rider in first place scores 3 points, second 2 points, third 3 points and last 0 point. The race starts from a starting gate with the riders starting from a clutch start.

The bikes race anti-clockwise around an oval track on a surface of loosely packed shale. The shale allows the riders to slide their machines sideways to manoeuvre the corners. Speedway bikes are only able to turn left. Each track is between the length of 260m and 425m. There is some form of safety barrier between the outer edge of the track and the spectators.

Speedway bikes are made up of a 500cc engine, run on methanol instead of petrol and have NO breaks or gears. The acceleration of a speedway bike is 0-60 in less than 3 seconds.
